O Pedro é de Portugal e realizou um SVE em Itália. Esta é a partilha da sua experiência!
(EN) “There comes a point in life where in all young people, awakens the alliance of desire to know and change the world, with the action. Many will lack the action. And they will never savor that flavor. Fortunately for me the click was about one year ago.
I joined an EVS project for 6 months in Italy, Palermo. A disadvantaged area of Italy and I had the opportunity to work in a cultural center, a reformatory and orphanage. I can say that adaptation is difficult. It’s kind of a hangover from our comfort zone. Never talking in our mother tongue, alone in a different country, so many new things just happening!
So in the end I met not just the Italian and Sicilian culture. I lived with other 5 volunteers from 5 different countries. Obvious that after all this is a great panorama. The opportunity to live in a multicultural environment, working with local people, take classes from local language … Two months later I spoke fluent Italian and I already felt at home. But I felt also homesick.
My period of EVS picked Christmas, New Year, my birthday. I preferred not to go home for Christmas and with this money, put the backpack and take a trip through the major cities of northern Italy. The advantage of all this? When we return home, in the end of the project, it’s all the same … Our family is the same (maybe bigger lol), our friends are there, the house has the same smell … But everything has another flavor and is when we realize that what has changed is us.
Now I feel increasingly incomplete. The other cultures sharpened my desire to know even more and only made me understand that I am so small. I’m looking for other projects because I believe that work without pay is just a stigma. We received much more than money. All that is valuable in life, is priceless.”
(PT) “Chega uma altura da vida em que a todos os jovens, desperta a aliança da vontade de conhecer e mudar o mundo, com a acção. A muitos falta a parte da acção. E nunca saborearão esse sabor. Felizmente comigo o clique foi à cerca de um ano atrás.
Ingressei num projecto SVE de 6 meses em Itália, Palermo. Uma zona desfavorecida de Itália e onde tive a oportunidade de trabalhar num centro cultural, num reformatório e um orfanato. Posso dizer que a adaptação é difícil. É como uma espécie de ressaca da nossa zona de conforto. Nunca falar na nossa língua materna, sozinho num país diferente, tantas coisas a acontecerem! Até porque não conheci apenas a cultura italiana e siciliana.
Vivia com mais 5 voluntários de 5 países diferentes. Óbvio que tudo isto depois é um panorama bestial. A oportunidade de viver num meio multicultural, trabalhar com as pessoas locais, ter aulas da língua local… 2 meses depois já falava fluente italiano e já me sentia em casa. Mas também há as saudades de casa. O meu período de SVE apanhou o natal, passagem de ano, aniversário. Preferi não ir a casa pelo natal e com esse dinheiro meter a mochila as costas e fazer uma viagem pelas principais cidades do norte de Italia. A vantagem disto tudo? No final da jornada, está tudo igual… A nossa família está igual, os nossos amigos estão lá, a casa tem o mesmo cheiro… Mas tudo tem outro sabor e é aí que percebemos que o que mudou fomos nós.
Agora sinto-me cada vez mais incompleto. O conhecer outras culturas aguçou o meu desejo por conhecer mais ainda e só me fez entender o pequenino que sou. Já estou à procura de outros projectos, porque acredito que trabalhar sem receber é apenas um estigma. Recebemos muito mais do que dinheiro. Tudo o que tem valor na vida, não tem preço.”
