A Flávia é de Portugal e realizou um SVE em Gana. Esta é a partilha da sua experiência!
Fazer SVE no Gana durante um ano foi uma oportunidade única na minha vida. Um ano cheio de aprendizagens e aventuras que nunca vou esquecer. É fantástico chegar a um novo sítio, com pessoas diferentes, uma língua que nos é estrangeira e uma cultura riquíssima que espera por ser descoberta.
Tive a possibilidade de trabalhar com crianças e adultos de uma das comunidades mais pobres da capital, Accra, sobretudo ao nível da educação ambiental e da literacia. Fiz montes de coisas que não sabia que era capaz. Nunca tinha organizado um evento comunitário numa comunidade estrangeira, nunca tinha ensinado adultos a ler e a escrever nem nunca tinha ajudado a gerir uma organização.
Tudo bem que nem sempre foi fácil. Além das condições duras de falta de água e luz e o facto de viver num bairro de lata, foi também difícil lidar com pessoas que ao início não entendia (e se calhar nunca vou chegar a entender completamente) e com situações que me eram totalmente novas num local onde as regras eram diferentes. Mas em todo o lado podemos encontrar pontos de apoio: as outras voluntárias, as pessoas com que trabalhava e todos os amigos que fui fazendo.
Um ano depois sinto-me uma pessoa mais confiante e segura. Confiante de que posso adaptar-me a formas de vida completamente distintas da minha e ser feliz. Segura que por maior que seja o desafio, vou conseguir ultrapassá-lo. E é por isto que esta é uma das experiências mais enriquecedoras e inesquecíveis da minha vida. Desejo que todos os que tenham no futuro esta oportunidade de fazer SVE possam aproveitar tanto este projecto como eu.

I did one year of EVS in Gana and it was the most unique experience of my life. It was a year full of learning and adventure that I will never forget.
It’s amazing to arrive in a new place, with different people, a foreign language and a rich culture that waits only to be discovered.
I had the possibility to work with children and adults of the poorest community of the Capital, Accra: above all, I worked in environmental education and literacy.
I did so many things that I didn’t know I was able to do: I had never organized a communitarian event in a foreign community; I never trained adults to read and write; and I had never helped to manage an organization.
It was not always easy. Beyond the hard condition of living without water and light, and the fact of I was living in a slum, It was also very hard deal with people that, at the beginning, I didn’t understand (and, maybe, I will never understand at all), in situation that were completely new for me, in a place where the rules were totally different. But everywhere we can meet supporting points: the other volunteers, people that were working with me and all the friends I was doing.
One year after, I feel a more confident and secure person. I am confident because of the fact that I’m able to adapt myself to ways of life completely different from mine and be happy. And I am secure because now I know that I am able to surpass bigger challenge.
For these reasons I can affirm that this was the most enriching and unforgettable experience of my life.
